Someone said, "it is easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults." Highlands For Good Government believes building strong children will ensure a strong and free America.
So, why has the current Macon County Commission defunded our children by. indefinitely delaying the Highlands School Project?
The Franklin area has five (5) locations and nine (9) publicly funded classrooms for Pre-K.
Highlands has no public classrooms for pre-kindergarten. We were led to believe that was changing.
But, shockingly, without notice or explanation, the Macon County Commission revoked a $329k contract for the plans for the $5-million-dollar project approved and budgeted by the previous commission, killing:
- A pre-K in Highlands with two classrooms and an outdoor play area for 36 children.
- Four new classrooms for older students
- Additional meeting and office space
- Renovated space for Career and Technical Education with project-based learning
- An expanded and upgraded media center with secure outdoor education space,
For now, the long-needed $100 million Franklin High School is still alive, something we strongly support.
October 2023 UPDATE: The commissioners have re-instated plans, and Highlanders for Good Government is most pleased to have had a role in that.
