A partial history of John Shearl's actions while serving in the Macon County Board of Commissioners.
Shearl voted in opposition to the MOU between the Macon County Board of Education and the Macon County Board of Commissioners, stating the combined intent of these two boards to use the recently purchased Higdon Property for FHS. (Macon County BOE had previously approved a resolution on May 22, 2023.)
Voted to terminate contract with LS3P for Highlands Pre-K. Vote was unanimous as it had not been identified on previous BOE capital outlay March 2023

Shearl opposed the budget. The budget included a 4 ½% increase for county employees, increased funding for public education and public safety, funding to restart the Highlands Pre-K addition (which he had previously voted to suspend), and gave Macon County the lowest tax rate in the state. The budget also included $869,983 for the Highlands soccer field
New Business (A)- Shearl voted against $840,000 in grant funding to provide additional positions for the Macon County Housing Department to take on additional housing restoration projects for those Macon County Citizens who need it most. Grant funding required a $0 county match. “Free money”.
Shearl makes a motion to pause the FHS project indefinitely. Motion fails 3-2. Shearl votes against proceeding with construction documents for FHS, which required a $1.6M appropriation from fund balance. Motion passed 3 to 2.
Shearl presents a pitch to make the School Board partisan, with no public input or discussion with the School Board. Shearl votes with Higdon to send a request to the legislature to re-map the Highlands district without public input or any previous board discussion. Passed 3-2. Antoine voted with them. Shearl calls for my resignation.
